Used AI to help write it? Some AI tools leave hidden labels in documents, and a clean copy removes those along with everything else. So if AI wrote or helped write your document, please mark it as AI-assisted or tell the person you're sending it to (your school, university, employer or client). Clean Retype isn't a way to hide AI use. Why this matters
Questions
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. The check runs inside your web browser on your own computer. The document is never sent to us or anyone else, so you can safely check confidential files.
What does it look for?
Author and editor names, company, title and other properties, total editing time, comments, tracked changes, hidden, white and tiny text, invisible characters, lookalike letters, editing-session IDs, links to outside files, embedded files, details stored inside pictures and macros.
Does it show if AI was used?
It shows hidden labels some AI tools leave behind, such as an author name like "ChatGPT", AI tags in the document properties, or invisible characters. Not every AI tool adds these, so a clean result doesn't prove AI wasn't used. If AI helped write your document, please say so to whoever you're sending it to. More on this.
Does the check change my document?
No. It only reads it. To get a copy without the hidden data, use Clean Retype: your first 3 documents are free.
Can I remove these myself in Word?
Many of them, yes. Our free guides show you how, step by step. Some things, like white text and invisible characters, are easy to miss by hand.
