Clean Retype

Terms of service

Last updated: 9 October 2026

1. Who we are

Clean Retype is a trading name of Richard Fenton, a sole trader in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"). You can contact us at hello@cleanretype.com. Postal address: available on request by email.

2. The service

Clean Retype takes a Word (.docx) document you upload, renders its pages as images, reads the visible text using optical character recognition (OCR), and produces a new Word document containing that text. Only the words are reproduced. Layout, formatting, images and anything not visible on the rendered page are not.

OCR is very accurate but not perfect. You're responsible for checking the output before relying on it, especially numbers, names and reference codes.

3. Your account

4. Free trial and subscription

Cancellation and refunds are covered in our refunds and cancellation policy.

5. Your documents

6. Acceptable use

You must not use the service to process unlawful material, to attempt to break, overload or reverse-engineer the service, to get around usage limits or the paywall, or to resell access without our written permission. We may suspend accounts that do.

7. Availability

We aim to keep the service running smoothly but can't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change or improve features over time.

8. Our responsibility to you

If you're a consumer, you have legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, including that the service will be provided with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms limits those rights, or our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Otherwise, we're not responsible for losses that weren't foreseeable, for business losses (such as lost profit or lost opportunity), or for loss caused by relying on output you haven't checked. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you've paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

9. Ending your account

You can stop using the service and cancel your subscription at any time. To delete your account entirely, email us. We may end or suspend your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you, we'll email you before it takes effect.

11. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
